Make money from home
61Make money from home
These are difficult times all around. I'm sure you are following the financial news just like everybody these days. Every day the moves on Wall Street are like the world's biggest reality show. But it's no joke, people are hurting because of these losses and it's serious. With so many people losing value in their homes and their stock portfolios, there are many who have become interested in alternative ways to make money from home. And they, naturally, turn to the Internet as a possible source for new income streams. They want to find that make money business that will bring in the extra bucks for years to come. I mean, who doesn't want to make money on internet? Passive income is great!
The dot com explosion of the late 1990's promised a new economy where business models could be built easily via online venues. But the dream to make money on internet died for many people. We all know how that ended, at least in terms of stock prices. Many people turned away from online business as this bubble exploded, and for good reason. There was a ton of hype around making money online and much of it was just not true. But as with all major bubbles, things then seemed to swing too far the other direction.
A few years into the 2002 recession there wasn't a dime available for venture capital for any type of online business. Just a few years before, you could call anything an Internet business and they would dump venture money on your desk. That was all over. Now, people were skeptical about any business that said they could make money on internet. But this did do something good. It shook out the hype from the system and left only those models that can really work. I think this is a healthy thing.
So where do we find ourselves in 2008 in terms of online business opportunity? Well, there's good news and bad news. With Web 2.0, a certain level of hype has re-entered the system. If you start researching around looking for a way to make money from home using the Internet, you will find no shortage of people ready to offer you products and services. But you need to do your research before you sign up with any of these. If anything sounds too hyped-up, it probably is. Yes, you can build a nice little alternative revenue stream and make money on internet, but don't believe anyone who tells you it will happen automatically without any work. Those days are gone. It will take work. But it CAN work.
Here's what you should look for when shopping for a make money business:
* Trust people who tell you the truth - that there is work involved.
* Buy products and services from firms that have an open forum where other customers share ideas.
* Play to your stengths. If you are not a coder, don't try to learn html. You can easily find software packages that will overcome that knowledge gap. If you have a fantastic knowledge of gardening, for example, then your competitive advantage is Gardening. Start a gardening forum and sell products on a web site built around that community. Likewise, if you are a developer, don't try to get into retail for products you know nothing about. Do development for people who have content knowledge - like the gardener I mentioned above.
* Don't spend too much money, but be prepared to spend some money. You can't get a business going for free. But don't give away thousands without really knowing what you are doing.
If you use these guidelines as you research your make money business, I think you will be on the right path. I know that many people are looking to make money from home, but to pull this off it takes some smarts, hard work, and solid research.
